Chair
Fiona Ellis is an independent consultant to the charity sector. Her recent clients have included the Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust, Comic Relief, the South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Association of Charitable Foundations. She chaired MMM’s Capital Matters in 2010. She has lectured widely on aspects of philanthropy including at conferences in Rome, Berne, Luxembourg, and Copenhagen and on a lecture tour in New Zealand in June 2010 by invitation of Philanthropy NZ and the New Zealand government.
Fiona was, until March 2009, Director of the Northern Rock Foundation, the foundation set up by the bank of the same name in 1997. Previously she was Assistant Director (Arts) for almost six years at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and, before that, Theatre Officer for Southern Arts, Director of Warminster Arts Centre and a community arts worker at Hoxton Hall in London. She spent several years as a stage manager, director and occasional performer.
Current voluntary positions are: Vice Chair of the BBC Appeals Advisory Committee; Vice Chair of NAVCA; Trustee of the Nationwide Foundation; Member of the Durham University Council and of its Audit Committee; Chair of St Cuthbert’s Society, Durham University; Board member of Them Wifies; Governor of Whalton C of E First School; and member of Whalton Village Hall Committee.
